Long Island is further from our offices than anywhere else Dahlcore Security Guard Services covers, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. We are headquartered on Staten Island with a second office in Manhattan; there is no Long Island branch. What that means in practice is that a Nassau or Suffolk booking is planned like a trip rather than a walk across the road — travel built into the call time, officers assigned to your event for the whole day, a supervisor on site who can make decisions without phoning head office, and a relief bench sorted before the morning rather than on it. We staff catering-hall weddings and galas, corporate off-sites, country-club functions, outdoor and waterfront events, and school and community occasions across both counties with registered security officers and trained event staff. We are veteran-owned, were founded in 2018, and are led by Ian Dahlberg, who brings more than 23 years of security experience.
The Long Island Events We Staff
Four shapes of Long Island event. Nearly all of them share one thing a city venue does not — every single guest arrived in a car and has to leave in one.
Catering halls, country clubs and golf clubs
Weddings, sweet sixteens, galas and member events at venues that usually have their own banquet staff, a manager who runs the room, and a car park bigger than the building. We take the entrance, the guest list and anyone who has to be handled quietly, and we treat the lot as part of the venue rather than the place where coverage stops.
Corporate off-sites and conference venues
Company days, launches and client events at conference centres and office parks across Nassau and Suffolk. Registration that clears at the rate people arrive, credential checks that keep your floor separate from the building’s other tenants, and a supervisor your organiser can find without walking the site.
Outdoor, estate and waterfront events
Marquee weddings on private grounds, beach and waterfront functions, and open-air community days. A boundary that has to be built, several approaches, guests parking along a road that was never meant for it, and a plan for the weather. Officers hold the entry points and the edges and keep the vehicle lane clear.
School, parish and community events
Fundraisers, graduations, fairs and civic events in gyms, halls and on fields, usually run by volunteers with a principal or a committee in charge. Coverage that supports the volunteers rather than replacing them, and a written record afterwards for whoever has to report on the night.
We are not around the corner, so we plan like it
A company that tells you it is local to every town on Long Island is either running a lot of offices or not telling you the truth. We run two, and neither is here. The honest consequence is that a Long Island booking cannot rely on someone popping over from head office if the plan slips — so it is built not to need that. Travel is in the call time, so the team is on site early rather than exactly on time. Officers are assigned to your event for the whole day, not swapped at a shift change with someone still on the expressway. The supervisor on site has the authority to make decisions, because the person who would otherwise make them is an hour away. And the relief bench for the day is agreed before it starts, not after someone calls in.
What We Do Differently When the Venue Is Far From the Office
Six things that change in the plan because Long Island is Long Island. None of them is a promise of a time; all of them are how the booking is built.
1. Travel goes into the call time
The team is scheduled to be on site with margin, so a slow expressway is absorbed before doors rather than during them. Early on a Long Island job is the plan, not a bonus.
2. One team for the whole day
Where a city event might hand over between a day and an evening team, a Long Island event keeps the same officers throughout wherever the hours allow. Nobody learns your venue twice and nobody is waiting on a colleague who is still driving.
3. The supervisor on site can decide
Head office is not ten minutes away, so it does not get to be the bottleneck. The supervisor holding your event has the authority to move people, escalate, and change the plan on the ground, and your named account manager backs that up by phone.
4. The walkthrough is scheduled, not casual
We would still rather stand in the venue than plan from a floor plan. On Long Island that is a diary entry rather than a drop-in, so we book it with you early and make the one visit count — car park, entrances, boundary, and where the emergency lane runs.
5. The bench is arranged before the day
We hold a backup and relief bench for every booking. For Long Island that bench is sized and warned before the event rather than called on the morning, so a no-show is covered subject to availability without a scramble from the city.
6. Every guest is in a car
There is no subway to absorb the end of the night. Where the cars are, how they leave, whether the venue’s road can take twenty minutes of departures, and what happens to the guest who should not be driving — all of it sits inside the plan.
Why Long Island Organisers Book Dahlcore
The credentials a hall, a club or a school will ask for — and a company that tells you where it is actually based.
Licensed statewide, insured, documented
Dahlcore is a licensed New York State security guard agency, and that licence covers Nassau and Suffolk exactly as it covers the five boroughs. Officers are registered under the New York Security Guard Act (General Business Law Article 7-A) with the NY Department of State, Division of Licensing Services, and their training is DCJS-approved. Licensed, insured and bonded, with a certificate of insurance on request and public verification at dos.ny.gov.
Screened, trained, chosen for the room
Every person is background-checked and trained before assignment, and officers are certified in CPR, AED and First Aid, with naloxone training where an overdose is suspected. For a wedding or a club function we also choose for manner — the officer who can hold a guest list at a country-club door without anyone feeling checked.
One name to call, wherever the venue is
Ian Dahlberg owns the company and manages officers personally, in the office and in the field. You get a named account manager as your point of contact, and for a Long Island booking that person is deliberately reachable, because the office is not.
Attendance you can check from anywhere
Positions are written into post orders before the day. Attendance and patrols are confirmed with GPS and geofenced verification — which matters more, not less, when the site is far from the people who booked it — and you get a reporting portal login plus a written report afterwards.
The car park is where the night actually ends
In the city an event finishes at the door. On Long Island it finishes in the lot, and that is where the last problems of the night usually are: the guest who has had too much and is looking for their keys, the group that has decided to carry on in the parking area, the venue’s single access road taking three hundred departing cars at once. We staff the end of a Long Island event as deliberately as the start — officers in the lot as well as at the door, a pickup point that does not block the exit, and a quiet word with the guest who should be handing their keys to somebody else. What the venue’s policy is on that last one is the venue’s to set; making it happen without a scene is ours.
Long Island Event Staffing FAQ
Answers specific to staffing an event on Long Island. For roles, ratios and booking lead time, see our main event staffing page.
You are not based on Long Island. What does that actually change on the day?
Four things, and we would rather tell you than have you find out. Travel is built into the call time so the team is early rather than on time. The same officers stay for the whole day where the hours allow. The supervisor on site has the authority to make decisions, because head office is not next door. And the relief bench is sorted before the morning, not on it. A booking planned that way does not depend on anyone being local.
Our venue is at the far end of Suffolk. Is that a problem for staffing?
No, it is a planning input. Tell us where the venue is at the first call and the call time, the day’s assignment and the bench are built around it. The only thing distance genuinely rules out is a casual drop-in visit, which is why we schedule the walkthrough properly instead.
Will the same officers be there all day, or do shifts change part-way through?
On Long Island we keep one team for the whole event wherever the hours allow, precisely because a mid-event handover means someone learning your venue from scratch while their colleague is still on the expressway. Where an event genuinely runs long enough to need a break or a second team, we say so at the brief rather than quietly running people past the point they are useful.
Can you walk our venue before the event, given the distance?
Yes, and we would rather do that than plan from a floor plan. The difference on Long Island is that it is a scheduled visit rather than a drop-in, so we book it with you early and cover everything in one go — the car park and the access road, every entrance, the boundary if it is outdoors, and where the emergency lane needs to run.
What happens if someone does not turn up, given you are not around the corner?
The bench covers it, and for a Long Island booking the bench is arranged before the day rather than called on the morning — sized to the event and warned in advance, subject to availability. The supervisor holds the position in the meantime and tells you what happened. We do not publish a response time for this; what we do is not leave it to chance.
Guests are driving in from the city and from further out east. Does arrival timing matter?
It does, because they will not arrive together. City guests hit traffic and come in a late wave; guests from further out arrive early and wait. We staff the entrance for both waves rather than a flat average, and we plan the end of the night the same way, since the city guests will leave together to beat the drive home.
Can you staff an event at a country club or golf club?
Yes. Clubs usually have their own banquet staff and a manager who runs the room, so the line between their people and ours is agreed in advance — typically we take the entrance, the guest list, the boundary between your event and the members’ areas, and the lot. Officers can work in business attire where a uniform would sit badly with the club, and a certificate of insurance is available if the club requires one before confirming.
Our event runs late and every guest has a long drive home. What do your officers do about that?
They work the end of the night as carefully as the start. Officers are posted in the lot as well as at the door, the pickup point is kept clear of the exit, and the guest who should not be driving is handled quietly — a word, a lift arranged with someone in their party, a cab called. What your venue’s policy is on that guest is the venue’s to set; carrying it out without embarrassing anyone is ours.
Where on Long Island we staff
Both counties. Nassau — from the catering halls and clubs of the western towns through Hempstead and Garden City to the North Shore estates. Suffolk — Huntington and the corporate parks along Route 110, Islip and the South Shore waterfront, and the venues further east. Wherever the site is, the same first question applies: how far is it, what is the parking like, and what time do the last guests leave. Those three answers build the plan.
