A lot of Brooklyn venues are, in the most literal sense, just a room. You book a warehouse in Bushwick, a loft in Gowanus, a brewery in Greenpoint or a garden behind a brownstone, and what arrives with the keys is four walls and a certificate of occupancy — no front desk, no coat check, nobody to point a guest at the toilets. Dahlcore Security Guard Services staffs the difference: registered security officers for the security posts, and trained event staff for check-in, ushering, cloakroom and guest services. We are veteran-owned, were founded in 2018, and are led by Ian Dahlberg, who brings more than 23 years of security experience. Brooklyn events are run from our Staten Island and Manhattan offices with a named account manager on every booking.
How Much Your Brooklyn Venue Actually Comes With
The single thing that decides a Brooklyn staffing plan is not the guest count. It is how much of the operation the venue already runs, and how much of it is handed to you with the keys.
Raw warehouse and loft spaces
Bushwick, East Williamsburg, Gowanus and Sunset Park. You get the room, a load-in door and a bathroom count. Everything a guest expects to find — a person at the entrance, somewhere to leave a coat, someone who knows where anything is — is staff you are bringing with you.
Breweries, taprooms and restaurant buy-outs
The venue runs its own bar and kitchen and knows its room, so the gap is narrower — usually the door, the guest list and the boundary between your private event and the regulars who still turn up. Their staff serve; ours handle entry and anything that stops being hospitality.
Brownstones, gardens and rooftops
Private homes and small buildings hosting something larger than they were built for. One narrow entrance, neighbours on both sides, and a host who is meant to be enjoying their own party. Discreet coverage at the door and on the boundary, with as little visible apparatus as possible.
Established halls and ballrooms
Catering halls and event venues with a manager, house staff and a way of doing things. Here we fit into an existing operation rather than replacing one, which mostly means agreeing early who owns the door and who owns the room.

An empty room is not a cheap room
Raw Brooklyn spaces look like the economical option until you count what has to be hired in with them. A hall with a manager, a doorman and a cloakroom is quietly supplying four or five roles you never had to think about. A warehouse supplies none of them, and the gap does not appear on any invoice until the night it is missing — when there is nobody at the door, coats are piling on a table, and the person answering questions is you. Worth working out early rather than at seven in the evening.
The Roles a Bare Venue Leaves You to Fill
Six posts a full-service venue would have covered for you. In a raw Brooklyn space each one is either staffed or simply not happening.
The person at the door
Checking the list or the ticket, holding the count, and turning away whoever should not be there. In a venue with a doorman this is invisible. In a warehouse with a roll-up door onto the street, it is the entire boundary between your event and the pavement — and it is a registered officer’s post, not a volunteer’s.
The check-in desk
Badges, lists, walk-ups and the guest whose name is spelled differently on the invitation. Staffed to clear at the rate people actually arrive, which is heavier in the first half hour than a flat headcount across the night would suggest.
Somewhere to put a coat
Unglamorous and the first thing to fall over. An unattended coat pile is a lost-property problem at the end of the night and an argument at worst; a staffed cloakroom with a ticket system is one person and removes both.
Someone who knows where things are
Toilets, the bar, the second room, the exit, whether there is step-free access. In a bare space nobody has this by default, so guests ask whoever looks official — which will be our officer at the door unless somebody else is there to ask.
The vendor and load-in door
Caterers, rentals, AV and the ice arriving through a door that is not the guest entrance and usually stays propped for hours. Somebody has to know who is expected and close it when the last delivery is in.
Hands for set-up and breakdown
Chairs out, chairs back, rubbish staged for collection, and the room handed back in the state your contract says. Temporary event staff cover the shoulders of the night at either end, which is usually where an organiser’s own team is most exhausted.
Why Brooklyn Organisers Book Dahlcore
A security agency staffing your event rather than a temp desk filling a shift.
Licensed, insured, documented
Dahlcore is a licensed New York State security guard agency. Officers are registered under the New York Security Guard Act (General Business Law Article 7-A) with the NY Department of State, Division of Licensing Services, and their training is DCJS-approved. Licensed, insured and bonded, with a certificate of insurance on request — which most Brooklyn venues will want before they hand over the keys — and public verification at dos.ny.gov.
Screened before they are ever assigned
Every person is background-checked and trained before working an event, and officers are certified in CPR, AED and First Aid. In a raw space with no house team, the people we send are the only trained people in the building — which is a good reason not to treat event staffing as a headcount exercise.
Covered if somebody drops out
We hold a backup and relief bench, so a no-show is ours to solve rather than a missing post on your floor plan an hour before doors. Your named account manager tells you what happened rather than leaving you to notice it.
Attendance you can actually check
Positions go into written post orders before the day, and attendance and patrols are confirmed with GPS and geofenced verification. You get a reporting portal login and a written report afterwards — worth having when a venue asks who was on the door at eleven, or when you are deciding what to book next time.
The neighbours are the other guest list
A great many Brooklyn event spaces share a wall, a block or a stoop with people who live there. Almost nothing that goes wrong for them happens inside your event — it happens on the pavement at the end of the night, or at the smoking spot under someone’s window, or when forty people leave at once and stand around talking. Staff posted outside rather than only inside is what keeps that from becoming a complaint, a visit, or a venue that will not rent to you again. On a late event in a residential block it is the part of the plan we would argue hardest for.

Brooklyn Event Staffing FAQ
Answers specific to staffing a Brooklyn venue. For roles, ratios and booking lead time, see our main event staffing page.
Our venue is a raw space with no house staff. What do we actually need?
Walk it with us and we will tell you post by post. As a rule a bare space needs someone on the entrance, someone on the check-in desk, a cloakroom if guests are arriving in coats, and someone free to answer the questions a venue with a front desk would have absorbed. Add the vendor door if your load-in is long. That is usually a smaller team than people expect — the mistake is assuming the room comes with any of it.
Can you supply hands for set-up and breakdown, not just front of house?
Yes. Temporary event staff can cover the shoulders at either end — chairs and tables out and back, rubbish staged for collection, and the room returned in the condition your hire agreement specifies. It tends to be the part organisers under-book, because by the end of the night their own team has been on their feet for twelve hours.
Do you provide a cloakroom or coat-check attendant?
Yes, and in a raw space between autumn and spring it is one of the better-value posts on the plan. A staffed cloakroom with a ticket system is one person; an unattended pile of coats is a queue at the end of the night and an argument if something goes missing.
Can you staff an event in a backyard, garden or rooftop of a private building?
Yes, and discretion is most of the brief. These are usually one narrow entrance, neighbours immediately adjacent, and a host who should be enjoying their own event rather than working it. Coverage is at the door and on the boundary with as little visible apparatus as we can manage.
We have booked a brewery or restaurant buy-out. Their staff run the bar — what do yours do?
Theirs serve, ours handle the door and anything that stops being hospitality. The specific thing to plan for at a buy-out is the regulars who arrive not knowing the place is private tonight, which is a boundary question rather than a bar question, and it is much easier if their manager and our supervisor have spoken before doors.
Our venue has no manager on site. Who do our vendors report to?
Our supervisor can hold the vendor door and check arrivals against a list you give us, so caterers, rentals and AV are logged in rather than wandering through an open door for three hours. What we will not do is sign for deliveries or take responsibility for your hire contracts — that stays with you or your planner.
Our event runs late on a residential block. Does that change the staffing?
It changes the end of it. Most neighbour complaints in Brooklyn come from the pavement rather than the room — the smoking spot, the group standing outside, and everyone leaving at once. We staff the outside as deliberately as the inside on a late event and stage the exit rather than opening the doors and hoping, which is usually what stands between you and a venue that will rent to you again.
Can you staff a recurring series rather than a one-off?
Yes, and there is a real advantage in it — the same people learn your room, your regulars and your running order, so by the third event they are useful in ways a new team cannot be. Tell us it is a series at the outset and we will keep the assignment consistent rather than treating each date as a fresh booking.

Brooklyn neighbourhoods we staff
Bushwick, East Williamsburg, Williamsburg and Greenpoint warehouse and loft spaces; Gowanus, Red Hook and Sunset Park industrial rooms; Downtown Brooklyn and DUMBO corporate venues; Park Slope, Crown Heights, Bed-Stuy and Fort Greene brownstones and gardens; Bay Ridge and Flatbush halls and community venues. Different rooms with the same underlying question — how much does this place already do, and what are you bringing with you.
